Car purchase costs to rise in Argentina due to updated vehicle valuations

The National Directorate of Registrations of Motor Property (DNRPA) in Argentina has updated its official valuation table for cars and motorcycles, which will affect the fees for certain registration and transfer procedures starting this month. This update, established by Disposition 160/2026 and published in the Official Bulletin, replaces the July table and is a routine procedure to keep reference values current.

Practically, the resolution does not introduce new tariffs or alter the applicable rates for transfers or initial registrations. Instead, it modifies the official reference values for vehicles upon which these costs are calculated. Consequently, if the DNRPA adjusts a vehicle's assigned value, the final amount a user pays for associated procedures may change, even if the calculation formula remains the same. Some vehicle models will see increased costs due to higher valuations, while others will experience reductions.

The DNRPA compiles these tables by identifying each vehicle by make, model, version, and year, assigning it a reference value. This information serves as the basis for calculating tariffs for initial registration and transfers. The Directorate utilizes monthly tables published by the Association of Automobile Dealers of the Argentine Republic (Acara) and the Chamber of Automotive Commerce (CCA) as references.

To ensure fairness, the DNRPA analyzed vehicles ranked high in Acara's registration data. They compared versions with identical identification codes in both the previous and new tables. The analysis covered 147 comparable 0 km versions across 17 models. Of these, 144 saw an increase in valuation, two remained unchanged, and one decreased. The median variation was approximately 8%, though individual model differences were significant.
