Car thief crashes, overturns vehicle after stealing from war veteran in Argentina

A carjacking in Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, ended dramatically when the suspect driving the stolen vehicle crashed and overturned it after a police pursuit. The incident began early Thursday morning when two individuals on a motorcycle approached Antonio De Luca, a veteran of the Falklands War, outside his home.

According to reports, the assailants threatened De Luca with a firearm on Avenida Frías and Los Andes in Villa Centenario, forcing him to surrender his Toyota Etios. One suspect drove off in the car while the other fled on the motorcycle, with the pair separating to facilitate their escape. De Luca promptly contacted the 911 emergency line to report the theft.

As the suspect drove the stolen Etios through the local streets, he realized he was being pursued by police officers. In an attempt to evade capture, he accelerated, but lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with a parked Peugeot 206 on Cayetano Donizetti street, near Avenida Las Heras, before flipping over multiple times and striking a parked van.

Security cameras in the area recorded the violent impact, showing the car becoming airborne before landing upside down on the pavement. Police officers quickly responded, apprehending the injured driver at the scene. The second suspect was apprehended a few blocks away.

Neighbors reported hearing the loud crash, which awakened them. One resident described the scene, noting the bloodstain on the ground where the suspect was extracted from the vehicle and taken away by ambulance due to a head injury. Both suspects have been charged with aggravated robbery and are under the jurisdiction of UFI 1 of Lomas de Zamora.
