Caracas Metro to begin Line 2 rehabilitation next Monday, June 22

The Caracas Metro will begin significant rehabilitation work on Line 2, temporarily suspending commercial service between the Caricuao and Zoológico stations starting Monday, June 22. Carlos Silva, president of the Metro de Caracas, announced the measure, which is part of a major maintenance plan to optimize train passage in the southwestern sector of the capital.

The works are estimated to take seven weeks. During this period, technical teams will focus on the comprehensive rehabilitation of seven kilometers of Line 2. Silva emphasized that these extensive repairs are directly linked to the objective of guaranteeing the mobility and safety of the daily users of the underground transport system.

Silva explained that the affected section, which spans seven kilometers out of the line's total 40 kilometers, shows the most structural damage. He described this deterioration as a normal process for large-scale rail systems, resulting from the natural wear of components and environmental exposure, as this particular stretch is above ground.

To mitigate the impact on passengers, the state transport company confirmed the activation of a contingency plan using Metrobús units. These buses will operate on a schedule from the Zoológico and Caricuao terminal stations to Antímano, where passengers can reconnect with the subway system. This emergency surface transport service will run continuously with an estimated departure frequency of 10 minutes per unit.
