Carretera Central closures and restrictions: Sutran's schedules for today, Sunday, and July 29

Peru's Superintendency of Terrestrial Transport of People, Cargo, and Merchandise (Sutran) has implemented temporary restrictions for heavy cargo vehicles on a segment of the Carretera Central highway.

The measure, in effect during the extended Fiestas Patrias holiday, aims to facilitate the movement of thousands of travelers heading from Lima to the central highlands. The restrictions target trucks weighing over 3.5 tons traveling between kilometer 19 in Ñaña and kilometer 145 in Pucará.

Beyond managing traffic flow, Sutran seeks to reduce congestion and enhance road safety on one of the country's busiest corridors. The restriction was previously applied on the nights of July 24 and 25 and is scheduled for a final period on Wednesday, July 29, from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

During these restricted hours, heavy cargo vehicles will be prohibited from entering the specified section. Trucks already within the corridor at the start of the restriction will have five hours to exit the area. Once exited, they cannot re-enter until the designated time period concludes.

Exemptions apply to ambulances, police vehicles, fire trucks, cranes, vehicles carrying humanitarian aid, medicine, or donations, and machinery for emergency response or road rehabilitation. Parking heavy cargo vehicles on the shoulders of the road within the restricted zone is also forbidden. Concurrently, Sutran is conducting its "Safe Travel: Fiestas Patrias 2026" operation until August 3, deploying 950 inspectors for approximately 2,700 oversight actions to prevent accidents and combat informal transport.
