Cartagena's Transcaribe Launches 25.64% Fare Discount for Students, Seniors, and Disabled

Cartagena's integrated mass transit system, Transcaribe, is introducing a differentiated fare system with a significant subsidy for eligible users starting July 16, 2026. This initiative, backed by District Council Agreement 009, aims to ease the financial burden on local families by providing a $1,000 subsidy for each trip. This effectively translates to a 25.64% discount on the current fare.

The program, funded by the Mayor's Office of Cartagena, is expected to benefit around 27,000 citizens. While the initial phase focuses on students in basic and secondary education, the subsidy will also extend to seniors and individuals with disabilities. The District is urging potential beneficiaries to verify their eligibility through official channels, including a dedicated web link and the 'Catalina' app's virtual assistant.

To manage the process and avoid overcrowding, Transcaribe has established a registration schedule at the User Attention Center (CAU) located at the Patio Portal. The schedule is organized by the last digit of the beneficiary's identification document, with specific days assigned to numbers 0-1 on Mondays, 2-3 on Tuesdays, and so on, running from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a midday break. Daily attendance is capped at 240 turns.

Students attending the registration must present their identification document and their Transcaribe card in good condition. Minors are advised to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Ercilia Barrios Flórez, manager of Transcaribe, emphasized the importance of attending on the designated dates with the required documentation to ensure a smooth validation process for this new differentiated fare system.
