Case Filed Over Explosion at Bangladesh Political Rally; Attack Suspected

Authorities have filed a case against unidentified individuals in connection with an explosion that occurred during a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally on the outskirts of Dhaka. The incident took place last night at the Tarapur Eidgah Ground in Savar, leading to injuries and widespread panic among attendees.

The case was lodged by Md Salamat Ullah Rony, member secretary of the NCP's Dhaka North unit, with the Savar Model Police Station. The initial report suggests the involvement of a banned outfit in the organized attack. Police have confirmed that operations are underway to apprehend those responsible.

According to the complaint, the explosion happened around 9:42 p.m. as central party leaders were delivering speeches. The blast, which occurred about 10 to 15 feet in front of the stage, sent white smoke across the venue. The FIR details that electricity to the venue was disconnected shortly before the leaders were to speak, plunging the site into darkness despite backup generators.

Several individuals, including journalists, suffered serious injuries. The complaint alleges the perpetrators fled immediately after the explosion, which was carried out with the intent to harm NCP leaders and rally attendees. The party leaders cut short the rally to file the case, emphasizing the planned nature of the attack.
