Cat with 29 toes breaks Guinness World Record

A Maine Coon cat named Erebus Anomaly from Wisconsin has officially entered the record books for an extraordinary number of toes.

Recognized by Guinness World Records on May 13, 2026, Erebus boasts 29 digits across his four paws. He has eight toes on one paw and seven on each of the other three, far exceeding the typical feline count of 18.

This remarkable trait is due to polydactyly, a genetic condition that results in extra toes and is particularly common in Maine Coons. Erebus's owners, Kendra and Hunter Nett of BlueNorthern Maine Coons, noticed his unusual number of toes shortly after his birth. His father also had an unusually high number of digits, with 24.

Erebus's record-breaking feat surpasses previous holders Jake, a Canadian cat with 28 toes, and Toby Henderson, a Michigan kitten who also matched that number in 2025. Erebus's 29 toes make him the sole record holder.

Adding to his unique story, Erebus overcame a bout of aspiration pneumonia shortly after birth, requiring intensive care. X-rays taken during his treatment inadvertently provided the evidence needed for Guinness to verify the bone structure in his paws. Now recovered, Erebus will remain with his devoted owners.
