Catering truck instead of Air Force One? Trump confirms Secret Service diversion tactic

President Donald Trump has confirmed a clandestine operation involving a catering truck was used to obscure his departure from Turkey, a tactic he says was directed by the Secret Service. The elaborate ruse aimed to mislead observers into believing he had departed on the presidential aircraft, Air Force One, following a NATO summit.

Trump stated that he adheres strictly to the directives of his security detail. "It's solely up to the Secret Service," he told reporters, adding, "I do what they say." While he did not elaborate on the specific threats that prompted the diversion, Trump suggested that such measures are standard procedure when facing potential dangers. "I assume there was a threat," he said, downplaying the significance by noting, "Every president who accomplishes things faces numerous threats."

The Washington Post initially reported that Trump boarded a smaller U.S. military jet after being transported in a catering container from the airport tarmac. This smaller jet then flew him to Great Britain, where he later transferred to the newer Air Force One, a gift from Qatar. The intention was to maintain the public perception that he had traveled the entire distance on the presidential aircraft. The president appeared eager to dismiss the incident, emphasizing that presidents who achieve little face no threats, implying his own actions warranted such security precautions.
