Cattle prices rise at Cañuelas Livestock Market amid limited supply

The Cañuelas Livestock Market (MAG) began its weekly operations with a notable increase in cattle prices, influenced by a constrained supply of animals. A total of 6,866 animals arrived, transported by 177 trucks.

Operators from the local market and industry engaged in competitive bidding to secure livestock, resulting in price gains, particularly for steers and cows. The General Index saw a significant rise of 3.98% compared to Friday, moving from 3856.957 to 4010.586 pesos. The Steer Index also climbed by 1.35%, from 4419.732 to 4479.617 pesos per kilogram.

Steers, accounting for 19.26% of the total sales with 1,321 heads, achieved notable prices, including $4800, $4750, and $4700 per kilogram for various lots. The best cows also fetched strong prices, with some selling at $4200, $4000, and $3850 per kilogram.

Prices for lighter lots also saw strong performance. Novillitos (young steers) reached up to $5400 per kilogram, while heifers (vaquillonas) sold for as much as $5300 per kilogram. The overall average weight of the animals processed was 434 kilograms.
