CCTV Captures Man’s Narrow Escape as Delhi PG Building Collapses in Seconds

A man can be seen running for his life as a five-storey paying guest building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area collapses in seconds, sending dust and debris across the site.

The building fell on Sunday while workers were carrying out repair work in the basement. It was mainly occupied by Delhi University students. At least six people died and about 10 others were taken to hospital after rescuers pulled them from the rubble.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police and other agencies continued operations into the second day, clearing the heavy debris. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

Delhi Police also registered a case against the building’s alleged owner, Hariram, and others. Officials said the case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at South Campus police station. They said renovation work was allegedly being carried out on the ground floor and may have led to the collapse, while multiple teams were formed to locate the people named in the case.

The collapse has raised questions about the safety of buildings used as student paying guest accommodation and the enforcement of construction and fire-safety rules in densely populated parts of the capital. About 200 members of the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP, gathered at the Delhi Civic Centre and called for the resignation of the municipal commissioner. The group alleged negligence and failures in protecting students living in paying guest facilities.

An FIR has been registered under BNS at PS South Campus against the alleged owner Hariram and others. The building was a PG. It is alleged that renovation work was being undertaken on the Ground Floor, which led to the collapse of the building. Multiple teams have been formed to trace the alleged persons.
