Ceiling collapses at South Korean restaurant, injuring 14

Fourteen customers were injured when the ceiling of a shabu-shabu restaurant in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, collapsed on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:36 p.m. at an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu establishment in Yangpyeong-eup.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with firefighters and medical personnel establishing an on-site treatment center. A total of 64 firefighters and 64 personnel were mobilized, along with 21 emergency vehicles. At the time of the collapse, approximately 60 customers were dining in the restaurant. The injured, comprising two men and twelve women, were taken to various hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

The building, constructed with a lightweight steel frame, spans 2,337 square meters on one floor. It was formerly used as a discount mart before the restaurant opened in July of the previous year. Following the incident, a post appeared on a local online community forum, with a user describing the terrifying experience: "The restaurant collapsed while customers were inside. My child is so traumatized, I don't know which hospital to go to. I'm also experiencing muscle pain from the shock."
