Cemetery Fences Removed in Kyrgyzstan's Sulayman-Too Protected Zone

In Osh, Kyrgyzstan, the removal of metal fences from cemeteries within the protected zone of the Sulayman-Too museum complex has begun. This initiative, spearheaded by an interdepartmental commission under the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, aims to enhance fire safety, protect the unique ecosystem of Sulayman-Too, and improve the overall condition of the burial grounds. The museum complex reported that the dismantling is crucial for ensuring the site's preservation. Previously, an interdepartmental commission, comprising representatives from various ministries, the Osh city administration, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan, and academic specialists, was established to regulate the cemeteries within the protected zone. This commission concluded that the gradual removal of structures not meeting established requirements was necessary. Following the completion of the fence removal, authorities plan to continue with further landscaping and conservation efforts at the site, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage object. The move is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term protection and aesthetic integrity of this culturally significant location.
