Central American and Caribbean Games Results: Panama Starts Strong in Dominican Republic with Archery Debut

The Panamanian delegation officially began its participation in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 with the archery discipline. The event, held in the Dominican Republic from July 24 to August 8, saw Panama's archers compete in the Ranking Round, the qualifying phase that determines seeding for the direct elimination playoffs.

A notable highlight for Team Panama came from archer Liborio Saavedra, who established a new national record in the Men's Recurve modality. Saavedra achieved a score of 625 points, securing 15th place in the overall ranking. In the Women's Recurve category, Gisela Cowan Chang finished 10th with 604 points, Emma Durán placed 26th with 512 points, and Miriam González was 27th with 469 points.

The Panamanian team also competed in team and mixed events. The Women's Recurve team, comprising Gisela Cowan Chang, Emma Durán, and Miriam González, secured 7th place with a combined score of 1585 points. In the Mixed Recurve event, the duo of Gisela Cowan Chang and Liborio Saavedra achieved a strong 5th place with 1229 points, signaling promising prospects for the upcoming elimination rounds.

In the Compound categories, Astrid Barría finished 25th in the Women's event with 645 points, while Paola Coronas was 28th with 587 points. Alexis Yáñez ranked 27th in the Men's Compound with 659 points, and Bladimir Berdiales was 29th with 654 points. The Mixed Compound team, featuring Astrid Barría and Alexis Yáñez, placed 11th with 1304 points.

With the direct elimination phases commencing on Saturday, July 25, Team Panama aims to advance through the rounds and contend for medals in various archery events at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games.
