Central Java government achieves successful shrimp harvest in industrial zone

The Central Java provincial government has achieved a successful harvest of vannamei shrimp, cultivated using modern techniques in the Wijayakusuma Industrial Area in Semarang. The harvest took place on Monday, July 6th, at a 1,561-square-meter pond managed by the Tugu Fish and Shrimp Seed and Cultivation Center, overseen by the provincial Marine and Fisheries Agency.

Gubernur Ahmad Luthfi personally observed the harvest, which showcased the application of advanced aquaculture technology. This method allows for the production of high-quality vannamei shrimp and serves as a model for developing modern shrimp farms within industrial zones. The cultivation period lasted approximately 82 days, with a target production of 1.3 tons, averaging 60 shrimp per kilogram.

According to Endi Faiz Efendi, head of the Marine and Fisheries Agency, the farm utilizes a closed-system approach to conserve water, a crucial consideration in an industrial setting. Water used is treated before being introduced into the cultivation ponds. The harvested shrimp are being sold locally at around Rp60,000 per kilogram.

Beyond aquaculture, the Tugu center also reported strong financial performance, achieving 72% of its annual revenue target by the first half of 2026. Governor Luthfi urged the agency to bolster fish and shrimp breeding centers across Central Java, highlighting their profitability for the community due to lower production costs and faster business cycles. He stressed that government-run centers should provide superior quality seeds accessible to all cultivators, ensuring they do not struggle to find reliable sources.
