Central University Student Allegedly Threatened Professor With Weapon

A student at the Central University of Ecuador (UCE) allegedly issued a threat to a professor in the Faculty of Obstetrics through a WhatsApp status update on Friday, July 31, 2026. This message triggered security protocols and prompted a response from the National Police on the university's campus in Quito.

The student reportedly posted a photograph of himself in a health sciences uniform, holding an object suspected to be a revolver. The accompanying message read: "If you ruin my future, I will make your life a nightmare." In response, the university immediately activated its security measures and preemptively evacuated the Faculty of Obstetrics while police initiated their investigation.

According to a police report, the secretary of the program informed officers that the student had failed the course and had exhibited inappropriate behavior previously. The report also indicated that the student failed the "Clinical Childbirth" course, and the professor teaching it was believed to be directly connected to the alleged threat. Based on this information, the police recommended that a formal complaint be filed.

As part of their procedure, law enforcement activated the university's security button, reviewed surveillance footage from the Faculty of Obstetrics, and conducted preventive patrols in the area. The National Police are continuing their investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate actions.
