Central-Western Mexican States Strengthen Security Collaboration in Regional Meeting

Governors and high-level representatives from seven central-western Mexican states convened in Guanajuato for the Eighth Regional Security Meeting. Generals from the region's Army also participated in the gathering, held at the Museo Regional de Guanajuato Alhóndiga de Granaditas.

Host governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo emphasized that enhanced collaboration among the states is crucial for building lasting peace in the region. Attendees included governors Indira Vizcaíno Silva of Colima, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero of Nayarit, and David Monreal Ávila of Zacatecas. Representatives from Jalisco and Aguascalientes also attended, along with the Secretary of Security for Michoacán.

During the meeting, participants presented key security actions implemented in their respective states since the last session in April. Key agreements reached include increasing permanent surveillance in border areas to more effectively address criminal activity, investing in technology to establish a single communication channel between states, and reinforcing highway patrols to deter cargo theft. The states committed to maintaining operational coordination to consolidate the regional security strategy.

García Muñoz Ledo highlighted the historical significance of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas venue, symbolizing aspirations for freedom. She expressed hope for continued teamwork to strengthen security strategies, underscoring a commitment to making their states and the country safer for families. The meeting was organized by the Government of Guanajuato in coordination with the XII and V Military Regions, with participation from various military and National Guard commanders.
