Centuries-Old Heritage Banyan Tree Branch Falls, Startling Dozens Below

A moment of solemn remembrance turned into a scene of panic in Quang Ngai, Vietnam, on April 26, when a massive branch from a centuries-old heritage banyan tree suddenly snapped and crashed down. The incident occurred in Truong Quang Trong ward, precisely as dozens of residents gathered beneath the ancient tree to perform the Giỗ Tổ Hùng Vương ceremony, honoring the legendary founder kings of Vietnam. The sudden, loud cracking sounds sent people scrambling for safety, narrowly avoiding serious injury.

Local residents described hearing distinct 'crack, crack' sounds before witnessing the enormous branch, over 10 meters long, detach from the trunk and fall. Within minutes, another large branch followed suit. The fallen limbs narrowly missed vehicles that frequently stop at the nearby traffic light, a testament to sheer luck that no one was harmed. However, the impact was not without consequence, as a street light pole was severely damaged, and sections of the surrounding wall were broken.
