Çeşme celebrates 100th anniversary of Atatürk's arrival with enthusiasm

The coastal town of Çeşme celebrated the 100th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's arrival with a vibrant two-day event on July 3-4. Organized by the Çeşme Municipality, the commemoration at Ilıca Taş İskele drew significant public participation, marking a centennial milestone for the region.

The festivities commenced with an Atatürk portrait exhibition, stalls showcasing handicrafts from non-governmental organizations, and a children's workshop. A key highlight was a talk by historian and author Sinan Meydan, titled "Atatürk's Legacy: The Secular Republic," which garnered considerable interest. The day's program continued with a concert by the ADD Atatürk Choir accompanied by the Çeşme Municipal Orchestra, a Zeybek dance performance by the Kent Enstitüsü, and a concert by the İzBB Pop Orchestra featuring soloist Merve Mete.

The second day featured discussions with local author Mehmet Culum on "The İzmir Assassination Attempt and Atatürk's Arrival in Çeşme," and poet, author, and museologist Sunay Akın's talk, "On the Road to the Republic." A particularly engaging exhibit invited citizens to share messages for Atatürk, titled "What Would You Say to Atatürk If He Were Here?" This interactive panel resonated deeply with attendees of all ages, who penned heartfelt expressions of love, longing, and gratitude.

The event culminated in a widely appreciated concert by Suzan Kardeş, who captivated thousands of attendees with her performance. Mayor Lâl Denizli underscored the significance of the occasion, viewing it not merely as a commemoration but as a vital gathering to keep collective memory alive. "On the 100th anniversary of the arrival of our Republic's founder, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to our Çeşme, we felt the pride of remembering his ideas, legacy, and the values he left us, together with our neighbors," Denizli stated.
