Ceuta residents storm beach, destroy migrant camp

Dozens of Ceuta residents took matters into their own hands Thursday, storming the Trampolín beach to dismantle and burn an improvised migrant camp. The dramatic action followed a viral call among local residents to protest the ongoing situation.

Earlier in the day, a group of demonstrators blocked access for Red Cross vehicles carrying essential supplies to the migrants. Chanting "The more of us there are, the more pressure we'll apply," and "Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta defends itself," the protesters aimed to prevent food and water from reaching the migrants. They believe that continued aid encourages irregular migrants to remain in Spain rather than return to their home countries.

The blockade, involving about a hundred residents, highlighted their frustration with the city's handling of migrant arrivals, particularly as a month anniversary of a large-scale crossing approached. The Red Cross vehicles were forced to reroute to reach the beach.

This confrontation underscores the growing tension and public discontent in Ceuta regarding migration management. The residents' actions represent a direct challenge to authorities and aid organizations attempting to manage the humanitarian situation.
