CF Montreal Fans Face Sanctions as Alexis Sánchez Set to Debut

CF Montreal's upcoming match against D.C. United on August 15 will be overshadowed by sanctions against some of its supporters. The club announced that official fan group privileges will be suspended for the game following incidents during the August 1 match against the New England Revolution.

During that match, we received reports of expressions and chants of an antisemitic nature directed at a New England Revolution player.

The club stated that it received reports of antisemitic expressions and chants directed at a New England Revolution player during the previous game. CF Montreal has condemned the behavior and apologized to the affected club and individuals. Major League Soccer, in collaboration with CF Montreal, investigated the conduct.

CF Montreal condemned what happened and offered apologies to both the affected club and the people involved.

As a result, two individuals received indefinite bans for throwing objects and violating the MLS fan code of conduct. Additionally, the fan section identified during the investigation faces indefinite sanctions. CF Montreal vows to identify and permanently expel any participants in antisemitic chants or other discriminatory behavior.

The Major League Soccer conducted an investigation with the collaboration of CF Montreal and, as a consequence of the identified behaviors, the club determined the indefinite ban from entry for two people for throwing objects and violating the MLS fan code of conduct.

These measures coincide with the highly anticipated presentation of Alexis Sánchez, the team's recent acquisition, at Stade Saputo. The club is also strengthening its anti-discrimination initiatives through education, fan engagement, and enhanced security, and has contacted local Jewish community organizations.

CF Montreal assured that it will continue working to identify other people involved and warned that those recognized as participants in antisemitic chants or any other discriminatory conduct will be permanently expelled from events organized by the club.
