Chadwick Boseman's Family Sues Widow Over Estate Six Years After Actor's Death

Six years after the passing of globally renowned actor Chadwick Boseman, who succumbed to colon cancer at age 43 in 2020, a dispute has erupted over his estate. Boseman died without leaving a will, leading to a legal conflict that has now emerged between his family and his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward.

Boseman's brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, along with his parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles. They are requesting the court to remove Ledward from her role as administrator of the estate and to ensure the assets are distributed according to legal shares.

The lawsuit claims that Ledward, who is entitled to 50% of the estate under court-appointed legal processes, has failed to distribute the remaining 50% to Boseman's parents. The family's attorneys allege that Ledward has not distributed the estate's assets, exceeding $3.8 million, over the past four years and has maintained unilateral control.

Furthermore, the court documents accuse Ledward of a lack of transparency regarding various assets, including royalties, image rights, real estate, and previously undisclosed bank accounts. The brothers argue that intellectual property rights are being commercially exploited through 'Chadwick Boseman, Inc.,' a company managed by Ledward, asserting that these rights belong to all heirs.
