Chairman Chung inspects ioniq 3 production in Turkey, prioritizing quality for European market

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung visited the Hyundai factory in Turkey to inspect the production process of the "ioniq 3," the company's first small electric vehicle set to target the European market in the latter half of the year. Chung toured the ioniq 3 production line at the factory located in Izmit, a port city near Istanbul, and discussed local production and sales strategies with employees.

Chung closely examined the entire production process, from the vehicle's body assembly to the final outfitting line, and urged thorough quality control. "We must prioritize quality from the beginning of mass production and enhance market competitiveness with a level of completion that exceeds customer expectations," he stated. "Especially regarding safety, we must ensure it is recognized as the best vehicle in Europe."

He also visited the Hyundai Mobis Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant to intensively inspect the production process of the battery systems that will be installed in the ioniq 3. The ioniq 3 is the latest model in Hyundai's dedicated electric vehicle lineup, designed as a hatchback electric car considering the driving environment and lifestyle of European customers.

Chung's visit to Turkey underscores the strategic importance of the ioniq 3 in strengthening Hyundai's electric vehicle lineup in Europe and creating new demand. Mass production of the ioniq 3 is scheduled to begin at the Turkish plant in mid-August, with sequential sales in Europe starting in the second half of the year. Hyundai aims for the ioniq 3 to secure a top position in the competitive segment of electric vehicles of the same class.

The Turkish plant, established in 1997 as Hyundai's oldest overseas production base for the European market, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. This marks the plant's first venture into electric vehicle production, having previously manufactured small cars like the i10 and i20. Hyundai plans to expand its electric vehicle production starting with the ioniq 3. Chung encouraged employees to adapt their work methods to the new era, building on the achievements of the past 30 years, and to pursue continuous innovation and competitiveness to become the leading company in Turkey across all sectors: production, quality, and sales.
