Changhua bids farewell to 'baseball desert' as Banxian Cup kicks off with 32 teams; Guashan Cup to follow in September

Changhua County is actively working to overcome its reputation as a "baseball desert" through dedicated grassroots development and major tournaments. The "2026 Fourth Banxian Cup Community Youth Baseball Championship" recently opened, featuring 32 teams, a significant increase from last year's 24. This event, held at the Yongjing Township simple baseball field, is a key part of the county's strategy to cultivate young talent.

Organized jointly by the Changhua County Government, the Dingxin and De Cultural Foundation, and the Yongjing Township "Gonghao" Association, the Banxian Cup runs from July 25th to 29th. The tournament includes 14 teams from Changhua and 18 teams from further afield, marking its largest scale in four years. This initiative is supported by the Dingxin and De Cultural Foundation, which has donated NT$500,000 annually, totaling NT$2 million over the years.

Banxian Cup has grown year by year since its inception in 2023, forming a "North Guashan, South Banxian" dual home-field brand.

Following the Banxian Cup, the "2026 Eighteenth Guashan Cup National Youth Baseball Championship" will take place from September 5th to 13th. This event is expected to draw 72 teams, comprising approximately 1,100 players. Together, these two tournaments are projected to bring over 100 teams and 1,600 players to Changhua for competition. The county government also highlighted that 13 schools in Changhua have baseball teams, with recent successes at the junior and senior high levels, and the ongoing construction of the Baguashan baseball field aiming to further improve training environments.
