Changhua Furniture Warehouse Fire Destroys 300 Ping Structure, Causes Millions in Losses

A massive fire engulfed a 300-ping warehouse belonging to the renowned Hongxiang Furniture in Fuxing Township, Changhua County, Taiwan, on Wednesday night. The blaze raged for nine hours before being extinguished early Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to the warehouse and a significant loss of furniture, estimated to be in the tens of millions of New Taiwan dollars.

The fire, which reportedly started on the second floor of the three-story structure, quickly spread due to the presence of flammable wooden furniture. Firefighters faced challenges in combating the flames, as the intense heat threatened to collapse the tin structure. They were forced to use an excavator to breach the warehouse to effectively douse the interior.

The fire started on the second floor, and the interior had flammable wooden furniture. Smoke billowed up to the third floor, requiring an excavator to break down the warehouse for us to spray water inside.

Two migrant workers who attempted to extinguish the fire in its early stages suffered minor smoke inhalation and were taken to Changhua Christian Hospital. The Changhua County Fire Bureau deployed 23 fire trucks, 3 ambulances, a drone, and 2 rescue robots, with 54 firefighters working to control the situation.

Hongxiang Furniture, a business with nearly 50 years of history in the region, is a prominent furniture provider in Changhua County. The company, founded by Hou Jincheng and his wife, has grown into a comprehensive operation with its own factory and showrooms. The second generation of the family has successfully taken over management, expanding the business to include online sales and custom orders. The family is also known for their active participation in local community affairs and charitable activities.
