Charlton, Bolton Eye Nigerian Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo

Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is on the radar of English Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers as the summer transfer window nears its close. The interest comes with just two weeks remaining before the window shuts.

Okonkwo's current situation at Wrexham sees him behind Anthony Patterson and Danny Ward in the goalkeeping hierarchy. Wrexham's club-record signing of Patterson from Sunderland has further impacted Okonkwo's position. With the Super Eagles shot-stopper in the final year of his contract, Wrexham faces the significant risk of losing him without a transfer fee next summer if he is not sold before the current window or the January window closes.

Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan for the 2023/24 campaign before making the move permanent the following season. His tenure at Wrexham followed a 15-year spell at Arsenal, where he joined as an eight-year-old. He played a crucial role in Wrexham's consecutive promotions, helping the club ascend from League Two to the Championship. During his time with the Welsh club, he recorded 47 clean sheets in 121 appearances, conceding 127 goals.

Internationally, Okonkwo has also made his mark, notably shining when Nigeria won the 2026 Unity Cup. He kept clean sheets in victories against Zimbabwe and Jamaica during the tournament.
