ChatGPT, Claude and Grok all suffer outages at the same time

ChatGPT, Claude and Grok encountered problems at the same time on the evening of September 3, Vietnam time, drawing widespread attention from users. Technology websites including Sqmagazine and 9to5Google reported the disruptions, while DownDetector recorded a sharp increase in error reports.

The problems affected ChatGPT on the web, mobile devices and desktop computers. Claude also experienced failures, and xAI confirmed that Grok had a service issue. Anthropic said errors had increased for requests sent to several models, including Claude Mythos 5.1, Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Opus 5.

The disruption extended beyond one Claude product. Anthropic’s Claude AI, Claude API, Claude Code and Claude Cowork services were all reportedly affected, potentially disrupting both ordinary users and developers who rely on the API.

The ChatGPT problems came as OpenAI hinted at the possible launch of a next major model called Astra. 9to5Google said the model could move OpenAI’s lineup from GPT-5.6 to GPT-6. Google’s Gemini appeared to continue working, although DownDetector also recorded a rise in reports involving the service. Google had not confirmed an outage.

When asked about the incident, ChatGPT acknowledged that a “ChatGPT Work Mode incident occurred in the early hours of September 3, Vietnam time,” and said the problem had been completely fixed.
