ChatGPT Tops South Korea's Fastest-Growing Apps with 23 Million Monthly Users

South Korea's embrace of artificial intelligence is booming, with ChatGPT averaging over 23 million monthly users in the first half of 2026. This surge highlights the rapid integration of AI services into daily life.

OpenAI's ChatGPT led the pack in user growth, adding 9.86 million users year-over-year. Google's AI service, Gemini, also demonstrated strong momentum, securing third place with 7.79 million average monthly users, an increase of 6.81 million from the previous year. These figures underscore a significant shift in how South Koreans are interacting with technology.

The data, compiled by app analysis service WiseApp·Retail, also revealed the popularity of social media platforms. 'Setlog,' an app for sharing daily life, gained significant traction, particularly among the MZ generation (Millennials and Gen Z), reaching 7.33 million monthly users and ranking second in growth. The report surveyed a sample of Android and iOS users in South Korea, focusing on apps with over 5 million monthly users.
