Chef Guy Savoy inducted into France's Académie des Beaux-Arts

Guy Savoy, a celebrated French chef, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first chef inducted into the prestigious Académie des Beaux-Arts. This esteemed institution, part of the Institut de France, traditionally honors artists, composers, and other creative professionals.

Savoy's induction took place at a formal ceremony where he was presented with a ceremonial saber he designed. Overwhelmed, he held the saber aloft to a standing ovation, dedicating the honor not just to himself but to "all the artisans who contribute to gastronomy, to the land of France, to the art of food and wine, to graciousness, to the art of hosting, in short, the art of living well the French way."

The recognition holds particular significance for Savoy, especially after the Michelin Guide controversially removed one of his restaurant's three stars in 2023. Laurent Petitgirard, the Académie's permanent secretary, described the induction as "the most beautiful revenge," calling the Michelin decision "a real scandal, so shameful and not at all justified."
