Chen Hsien-mei Faces Backlash for Villain Role, Reserves Legal Rights Against Insults

Taiwanese actress Chen Hsien-mei, known for her past roles as a "suffering victim," is currently facing a barrage of online criticism for her portrayal of a villain in the popular Taiwanese drama "Tofu Mama."

Chen's character in the eight o'clock drama is depicted as loud, sharp-tongued, and arrogant, provoking strong negative reactions from viewers. Many have taken to social media and private messages to express their anger and dissatisfaction with her performance. However, Chen appears unfazed by the backlash, stating, "I'm responsible for being bad; if no one scolds me, doesn't that mean I've failed?"

While she embraces the criticism as a testament to her acting skills, Chen has drawn a line at personal attacks. She recently posted on Facebook that she has been screenshotting comments that involve direct insults, name-calling, and profanity, reserving her legal rights to pursue action against such individuals. She urged irrational netizens to exercise self-respect.

Amidst the negativity, Chen also expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her loyal fans, affectionately known as "Mei Zhi" (梅汁). She thanked them for their unwavering support throughout her 28-year career, from her youth to her current stage as a mother. Chen considers herself fortunate to have such dedicated supporters, whom she refers to as "angels."
