Chenggongling 302nd Brigade faces constant controversy: Soldier brawl erupts, allegedly over dishwashing foam

A fight broke out among conscript soldiers at the Chenggongling military base in Taichung, Taiwan, reportedly initiated by an argument over dishwashing foam. The incident, which occurred recently, adds to a string of controversies plagued by the base.

According to media reports, the dispute began when a conscript soldier, identified as Chen, had dishwashing foam splashed onto him by a fellow soldier, Lin, while they were washing dishes after a meal. An argument ensued, escalating when Lin allegedly struck Chen in the face with a food tray. The commotion drew the attention of superiors, who intervened to stop the fight. Chen was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment, receiving four stitches for his facial injuries.

This latest altercation follows previous incidents at the Army's 302nd Infantry Brigade, located at the Chenggongling camp. In April, a sergeant was accused of threatening a conscript. More recently, a sergeant allegedly chased a soldier with a BB gun. The military command has confirmed that Lin has been sent to the military police for investigation. They have also stated that Chen has returned to his unit to recuperate. The command has contacted Lin's family and pledged to enforce disciplinary measures and strengthen legal education within the unit to prevent future occurrences.

Authorities are treating the incident seriously, emphasizing adherence to regulations and reinforcing legal awareness to deter similar events. The base has been under scrutiny due to multiple reported disturbances, highlighting ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and order among personnel.
