Cheonan opens 'green doctor' companion plant hospital in city center

A new "companion plant hospital" has opened its doors in Cheonan, South Korea, marking the first of its kind in the Chungcheongnam-do province. Operated by the Cheonan City Agricultural Technology Center, the facility aims to provide specialized care and advice for the growing number of people who keep plants as companions.

The hospital, located in Cheonan Samgeori Park, offers services such as diagnosing sick plants, providing treatment, and offering customized consultations on plant management. The initiative was established in response to the increasing social interest in companion plants and aims to alleviate the difficulties citizens face in plant cultivation, thereby fostering urban agriculture in daily life.

During the opening ceremony, various programs were conducted, including personalized home gardening guidance on proper watering and repotting techniques tailored to specific plant characteristics, as well as consultations and companion plant planting activities. Cheonan Mayor Jang Ki-soo highlighted the hospital as a significant achievement for Cheonan's goal of becoming a leading city in sustainable urban agriculture and a new step in welfare services.

In conjunction with the plant hospital's launch, the city center plans to expand public urban gardens and promote lifestyle horticulture. This effort is part of a broader strategy to build urban agriculture infrastructure that directly benefits citizens and enhances their quality of life through engagement with nature.
