Child killed in Co Mayo road traffic incident

A tragic road traffic incident in County Mayo on Sunday resulted in the death of a young child. The collision occurred around 11:20 a.m. on the N59 at Eskeragh, near Crossmolina and Ballina.

The child, who was a pedestrian on the road, was struck by a car. Emergency services pronounced the boy dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

An Garda Síochána, Ireland's national police force, has preserved the scene for forensic collision investigation. Traffic diversions were in place on Sunday evening as investigators examined the site.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. They specifically request that road users and pedestrians who were in the area between 10:40 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, and who may have captured relevant footage on dashcams or other devices, to come forward and share it.
