Children's Book Fair opens at new venue with 10,000 peso book vouchers for students

Buenos Aires's Children's Book Fair has opened its doors at a new location, the Buenos Aires Convention Center, marking its return to its historic site. This year's fair introduces the "Chequelibros" program, offering discounts to students, mirroring a successful initiative from the main Buenos Aires International Book Fair.

Organized by the Fundación El Libro (FEL) in collaboration with the National Secretariat of Education and supported by exhibitors, the fair aims to make books more accessible and encourage young readers' autonomy in choosing their reading material. Each student attending with a school delegation, after prior online reservation, will receive a 10,000 peso voucher redeemable at designated stands throughout the fair, which runs until August 2 with free admission.

The decision to extend the "Chequelibros" program to the Children's Fair follows the significant success observed during the recent 50th International Book Fair, which saw a 104% increase in school visits. This positive outcome encouraged organizers to continue the program. School visits are scheduled between July 13 and July 17, preceding the winter school holidays in Buenos Aires.

The fair's opening ceremony on Friday, July 17, at 5 p.m. will feature a keynote address by Isol Misenta, an acclaimed Argentine author and illustrator. Misenta, the recipient of the 2013 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), has published 25 books translated into 17 languages and has illustrated works by renowned authors. The expanded fair boasts over 3,000 square meters of exhibition space, more than 70 stands, and dedicated areas for performances, workshops, music, and theater, offering a rich program for all ages.
