Children’s Day: FG pledges equal opportunities for every Nigerian child

Nigeria's Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring inclusive and quality education for every child across the nation. The pledge was made by the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, during a special event in Abuja to mark the 2026 Children's Day celebration.

Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance.

Hosting children from diverse backgrounds and disability advocate Dera Osadebe at the Ministry of Education headquarters, Alausa emphasized that Children's Day serves as a crucial reminder of the nation's responsibility. He stated that investing in children's future through education, well-being, and equal opportunities is paramount.

"Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance," the minister declared. He specifically praised Osadebe for her advocacy in promoting awareness and inclusion for children with disabilities and autism, noting her work inspires conversations around empathy and equal opportunities.

He urged Nigerian children to remain confident, nurture their talents, and contribute positively to society, assuring them of the government's support in creating a conducive environment for their growth and success. The ministry also reaffirmed its dedication to protecting children's rights and well-being through policies promoting inclusive education and safe learning spaces.
