Children with Cancer in Bishkek Receive Vital Medication Through Foundation Support

Children undergoing chemotherapy in Bishkek have received a critical supply of medication, offering a significant boost to their treatment. The Pediatric Oncology Department at the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare has been supplied with Filgrastim, a life-saving drug essential for young cancer patients.

Sultan Stambekov, head of the department, reported that the vital assistance includes 960 prefilled syringes of Filgrastim. This donation was made possible through the Ergene Foundation, with crucial support from Americares. Stambekov highlighted the medication's importance on Facebook, explaining its function.

"Filgrastim is a modern drug that stimulates the production of neutrophils, blood cells that protect the body against infections," Stambekov stated. "It is used in patients after chemotherapy, helping the immune system recover more quickly and significantly reducing the risk of severe infectious complications. This allows children to continue treatment on schedule, reduces the need for hospitalization, and makes therapy safer and more effective. For many of our patients, this medication is an essential part of treatment."

The hospital maintains a long-standing relationship with both the Ergene Foundation and Americares, which regularly provide essential medicines, including rare and life-saving drugs that are often difficult to procure through standard channels. Stambekov noted that this latest delivery not only aids in the treatment of young patients but also provides substantial financial relief to both the state budget and the families undergoing treatment. The savings are expected to be redirected towards purchasing other necessary medicines, further expanding the hospital's capacity to help more children.
