The Chilean government has officially expressed its solidarity with Nepal and China in the wake of a catastrophic flood and landslide that struck the Rasuwa district, located on the border between the two nations and near China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The disaster has resulted in a tragic loss of life and extensive material damage.

In a statement, Chile's Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its deep sympathy to the peoples and governments of Nepal and the People's Republic of China. The ministry acknowledged the devastating impact of the floods and landslides, which have led to a high number of fatalities, missing persons, injuries, and significant destruction of property.

The government also confirmed it is actively monitoring the situation of any Chilean citizens in the affected region through its embassy in India, ensuring their safety and well-being.

The disaster, attributed to the collapse of a large ice mass from a Nepalese glacier at an altitude of over 5,000 meters, triggered a massive flow of ice, rocks, and mud. Official reports indicate that Nepal has recorded 389 deaths and around 1,400 people missing or out of contact, while China has reported three deaths and 558 missing in the Tibetan county of Gyirong.
