Chile suspends school classes in several regions due to severe storm damage

Chilean authorities have suspended school classes in numerous municipalities across the Maule, Ñuble, and La Araucanía regions. The decision comes in response to the "significant impact" of a severe frontal system affecting the country.

Interior and Segegob minister Claudio Alvarado announced the measure, stating it was a preventative step to ensure student safety. "As a way to prevent and provide security for students who must attend school, for tomorrow (Monday, August 3rd), in certain municipalities that have a significant degree of impact, it has been decided to suspend classes," he explained during a national emergency office (Senapred) briefing on the storm.

The suspension affects specific communes within each region. In the Maule region, classes are suspended in Constitución and Molina. The Ñuble region sees cancellations across the entire Itata province, as well as in the communes of Quillón, Bulnes, and San Ignacio. In La Araucanía, the affected communes include Loncoche, Galvarino, Victoria, Traiguén, Lumaco, Purén, Los Sauces, Renaico, Angol, Ercilla, and Cholchol.
