Chilean Communist Leader Carmona Meets Cuban President Díaz-Canel

Lautaro Carmona, president of Chile's Communist Party (PCCh), met with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel in Havana on Saturday. This marks Carmona's third visit to the island and precedes events scheduled for August 13, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth.

Carmona was accompanied by PC General Secretary Bárbara Figueroa, who also participated in the meeting with Díaz-Canel. Both Chilean officials are in Cuba to attend the centenary celebrations. This encounter is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the two parties. It is not the first meeting between Carmona and Díaz-Canel in 2026; they previously met in January when Carmona made his second trip to Cuba. During that earlier visit, Carmona criticized U.S. foreign policy under the Trump administration, linking his visit to what he called the "criminal imperialist offensive" by the U.S., citing the invasion of Venezuela and threats against other countries, particularly Cuba.
