Chilean Lower House Approves Government's Major Reform Bill

Santiago – In a significant step for the government's legislative agenda, Chile's Chamber of Deputies has approved the "megareforma" bill in its general concept. This crucial vote paves the way for a more detailed examination of the proposed legislation, which aims at national reconstruction.

The bill secured a majority with 90 votes in favor, countered by 59 against and one abstention. This outcome allows the project to proceed to the next stage, where the plenary session will deliberate on each article and the 118 amendments that have been submitted. These amendments include proposals for modifications and separate voting procedures on specific sections.
