China Deploys Over 100 Vessels Around First Island Chain Post-Summit, Taiwan Says

Despite the recent summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden, China's military activities in the region have not decreased, according to Taiwan's National Security Council Secretary-General Wu Chao-hsieh. He revealed that intelligence indicates China has deployed more than 100 vessels around the First Island Chain in the days following the Beijing summit.

Wu Chao-hsieh asserted on social media platform X that China is the sole source of disruption, posing a threat to regional peace and stability. This deployment highlights ongoing tensions in the Taiwan Strait and surrounding waters.

Our intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance intelligence shows that China has deployed more than 100 vessels around the First Island Chain in the past few days, and the timing is immediately after the Beijing summit.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense reported that between May 22 and May 23, they detected 16 Chinese military aircraft and 8 naval vessels operating in the vicinity of Taiwan. Of the aircraft, 13 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern, and eastern airspace.

Taiwan's military stated that it is closely monitoring and responding to these activities with its own mission aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missile systems. The increased Chinese military presence is seen as a continued effort to exert pressure on Taiwan.
