China pledges N40bn grant for devt projects in Nigeria

China has committed to providing Nigeria with a grant of RMB200 million, equivalent to about N40.3 billion, to bolster the implementation of development projects within the country.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, announced the grant during a meeting with Dr. Dunoma Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Abuja. He stated that the funds would support projects mutually agreed upon by both governments, aligning with Nigeria's development priorities and aiming to convert bilateral agreements into concrete advantages for the Nigerian populace.

Over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral relations have consistently remained at the forefront of China-Africa relations.

Ambassador Yu highlighted that this grant is part of China's ongoing dedication to Nigeria's national development and economic expansion. He noted that the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has entered a new phase of high-quality development, guided by the strategic visions of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The two nations have maintained close communication and coordination, working to implement understandings reached by their leaders and the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.

Dr. Ahmed expressed gratitude for China's consistent support, viewing the grant as a clear demonstration of China's responsibility as a major global player and a reflection of the deep friendship between the two nations. He assured that Nigeria would ensure the effective utilization of the grant and collaborate closely with China to implement existing bilateral cooperation agreements, reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to strengthening Sino-Nigerian relations.
