China's auto boom: Kyrgyzstan car imports surge 2.6 times in a year

Kyrgyzstan's automotive market is experiencing a significant boom, with total car imports rising by 36.5% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. The nation imported 78,375 vehicles, valued at over $680 million, according to the National Statistical Committee.

China has emerged as the primary driver of this growth, supplying 38,688 cars, a 2.6-fold increase. This surge from China significantly outpaced imports from other major suppliers like South Korea (25,765 units), the United States (4,332 units), Japan (2,333 units), Germany (1,900 units), and Russia (1,410 units).

Beyond imports, Kyrgyzstan's automotive sector also saw a substantial increase in exports. The country exported 1,920 vehicles worth $46.5 million in the first six months of 2026, a 68.1% rise from the same period in 2025. Russia remains the main destination for these exports, receiving 1,637 vehicles.

The trend extends to other vehicle types, with imports of trucks increasing by 10.7% to 13,097 units worth $177 million. South Korea and China were the leading suppliers of trucks. Motorcycle imports also grew by 22.4% to 17,707 units, with China accounting for the vast majority of these.
