Chinese Comac C919 completes first international flight to Mongolia

The Comac C919, China's domestically produced narrow-body airliner, has completed its inaugural international commercial flight. An Air China C919 aircraft flew from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, on Wednesday.

Air China is operating a daily service on this route, which is also served by a Mongolian Airlines Boeing 737 Max. This marks a significant milestone for the Chinese-manufactured aircraft, signifying its entry into international commercial operations. The service is scheduled to run for a limited time, from August 12 to September 15, 2026.

The choice of Ulaanbaatar as the destination for the C919's international debut suggests a measured approach by Chinese authorities. The flight distance is approximately 1,150 kilometers, with a flight time of under two hours. This contrasts sharply with the typical operations of aircraft like the Airbus A320neo or Boeing 737 Max, which often complete four to five flights per day on busier routes.

This initial international deployment is seen as a cautious step, allowing the C919 to gain experience on international routes under controlled conditions. The limited schedule and relatively short distance are likely intended to ensure a smooth transition into global aviation markets.
