Chinese experts deployed for flood rescue at Nepal hydropower tunnel

A specialized six-member Chinese expert team has been deployed to the Rasuwa district of Nepal to aid in a critical rescue operation. The team arrived via Chinese helicopter, having secured approval from the Nepal government, to address the situation at the flood-affected Upper Trishuli 3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project.

Authorities are facing a rescue mission that is both highly risky and technically demanding due to the conditions inside the tunnel. The floodwaters have complicated efforts to reach those trapped within the structure.

The Chinese experts are set to work in close coordination with a technical team from the Nepal Army. Their initial task will involve conducting a thorough technical reconnaissance of the tunnel. This assessment is crucial for understanding the extent of the damage and evaluating the potential for a successful rescue.

Should the initial assessment indicate that rescue operations are feasible, the Nepalese Prime Minister’s Office stated that additional Chinese experts, currently on standby near the Rasuwa border, will be brought to the site immediately. The joint team will commence their work only after a comprehensive evaluation of the conditions inside the tunnel.
