Chinese woman escapes kidnapping in Thailand after trusting online friend

A Chinese woman's trip to Thailand turned into a terrifying ordeal when she was kidnapped shortly after arriving in Bangkok. The incident occurred after she followed the advice of an online acquaintance, whom she had never met, to visit Thailand before heading to Singapore for her studies.

The woman met the acquaintance, who claimed to live in Singapore, before her departure. This online contact offered to arrange transportation in Bangkok. Upon arrival on August 24, the woman mistook a black sedan waiting outside her hotel for the arranged ride. The situation quickly turned sinister when three more men were picked up, and the woman realized she was in danger. Her attempts to resist and exit the vehicle were met with violence; she was elbowed in the face, her phone was taken, and her hands were bound.

The group drove towards the Thai-Myanmar border. Seeing a police checkpoint in Kamphaeng Phet province, the woman seized her chance, jumped from the speeding car, and sought help from locals. Thai police responded by shooting out the vehicle's tires, apprehending two suspects at the scene. The remaining two were arrested the following day. All four arrested suspects are Thai nationals. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment, and authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any masterminds behind the kidnapping.
