Chip Motors launches lightweight electric car with remote parking for under $15,000

Chip Motors, a startup, has introduced a new lightweight electric vehicle that promises easy parking and remote control capabilities, aiming to capture the market for urban mobility and leisure.

The "Chip" electric vehicle, priced at $15,000, is designed with a retro-modern aesthetic, featuring a boxy shape, round headlights, and a large LED grille that can display various expressions. It offers customizable body options, including soft tops or enclosed bodies, and can be configured with four or six seats. The vehicle's design draws inspiration from golf carts, emphasizing its compact size and maneuverability.

This new electric car meets U.S. low-speed vehicle (LSV) regulations, with a top speed of 40 km/h. Marketed as a "Life Utility Vehicle," it boasts a range of approximately 160 km, suitable for short trips like grocery shopping. A standout feature is the "Chip Go" remote driving service, which allows users to remotely control the vehicle for tasks such as parking, pick-up, or delivery. Chip Motors assures legal responsibility during remote operation.

Chip Motors is offering various optional accessories, including bike racks, surfboard mounts, a wide range of colors, and even a flip-up TV and sound system installed on the hood, transforming it into an outdoor party platform. The company has opened pre-orders, requiring a $250 deposit, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2027. Despite the innovative features, the remote driving service faces ongoing scrutiny, though the company has committed to covering legal liabilities.
