Chivas thrashes unbeaten Tijuana 5-2 after rain delay in Liga MX

After a significant delay caused by torrential rain in Guadalajara, Chivas delivered a commanding performance, defeating the previously unbeaten Club Tijuana 5-2 at the Estadio Akron. The victory was a much-needed display of superiority for the Guadalajara side, offering reassurance to their supporters after a mixed start to the season, including a loss to Toluca and an early exit from the Leagues Cup.

The match, which finally commenced after a two-hour and 30-minute delay, saw Chivas, also known as the Rebaño, put on their most impressive exhibition of the current semester. The scoring for the Rojiblancos was opened by Santiago Sandoval in the 23rd minute, followed by a brace from Ricardo Marín in the 31st and added-time of the first half. Roberto Alvarado extended the lead in the 59th minute, and Diego Campillo added a fifth goal in the 69th minute.

Despite the dominant scoreline, Tijuana managed to find the net twice, both goals coming from Brazilian forward Elias Manoel, who was making his Liga MX debut. These two goals, scored in the 75th and stoppage time, prevented the scoreline from becoming even more lopsided and were a source of frustration for Tijuana's coach, Gabriel Milito. The Xolos, managed by Gilberto Mora and featuring the legendary Loco Abreu, were considered a strong opponent, but Chivas ultimately overcame them with authority in front of their home crowd.
