CHP and DİSK Dev Emekli-Sen: 'Sentenced to Hunger'

Retirees, widows, and orphans in Turkey are struggling to survive on pensions that fall below the poverty line, according to a press conference held by the Republican People's Party (CHP) Samsun Provincial Directorate.

The event, held at Cumhuriyet Square, highlighted the dire economic situation faced by pensioners. Participants voiced strong criticism of the ruling party's social security policies, arguing that the current pension amounts are insufficient to meet basic living costs. The demonstration received support from the DİSK Dev Emekli-Sen, a trade union representing retired workers.

Speakers at the press conference emphasized that the pensions provided are not even enough to cover essential needs, pushing many recipients into poverty. They demanded immediate government action to increase these payments, calling for pensions to be raised to at least the hunger threshold, the minimum amount required to avoid starvation.

The CHP and DİSK Dev Emekli-Sen collectively urged the government to address the plight of pensioners and implement policies that ensure a dignified standard of living for all retired citizens and their dependents.
