CHP Deputy Chairman: Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu does not want to be a presidential candidate again

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of Turkey's main opposition party, will not seek the presidency for a second time, according to a senior party official. Bülent Kuşoğlu, a Deputy Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), stated that Kılıçdaroğlu has no desire to run again.

"Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu ran once, he would not want to run again for president," Kuşoğlu said. He added, "Hopefully, the conditions that would require his candidacy again will not arise." Kuşoğlu expressed confidence that the Turkish opposition movement possesses the capacity to identify and rally behind a new presidential contender.

Kılıçdaroğlu, who has led the CHP since 2010, challenged incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the 2023 presidential election. Despite securing a higher vote share than in previous elections, he ultimately lost to Erdoğan. Kuşoğlu's remarks suggest a potential shift in the opposition's strategy as they look towards future electoral contests.
