CHP deputy launches extraordinary congress process, seeks signatures

Ensar Aytekin, a deputy for the Republican People's Party (CHP) from Balıkesir, has announced the commencement of an extraordinary congress process, set to begin on June 1. This move signals a significant internal political development within the party.

Aytekin declared that signatures will be gathered from delegates throughout Turkey to support the convening of this congress. He framed the initiative as a response to what he described as "showing enmity towards democracy to all of Turkey" by those who allegedly entered the party headquarters with police and caused damage. This suggests a deep internal division and a call for accountability.

He emphasized that the congress is being initiated to address the court-ordered cancellation of the previous congress.

Aytekin extended an invitation to all potential candidates who wish to run for leadership in this upcoming congress, where he expects the current leader, Özgür Özel, to be elected for his fifth term. "We welcome all appointees who wish to be candidates for this congress, where we will elect our General Chairman Özgür Özel, who has been elected 4 times, for the 5th time with the delegate vote," he added, conveying his respect to the public.
